-Letter from the Education Coordinator

Greetings fellow EMS providers.

The 41st annual Rendezvous has come and gone. After months of planning, emails, teleconferences, making deadlines and finger crossing it went on without a major hitch. National speakers arrived on time and with no travel issues. Our loyal local presenters were prepared as usual and all gave great presentations, which we thank them for. Before we know it we will be back to the drawing board and planning for the 42nd annual Rendezvous. Time must be one heck of a good pilot because she keeps right on flying.

The 2nd annual EMS Management conference is on Monday and Tuesday June 6 & 7 at the Ramada Inn in Bismarck. We have 3 national speakers scheduled along with local presenters. Topics will range from compliance to HIPPA and recruitment to retention and much more.

Million Hearts and Blood Pressure training is now in the works. This training will offer and implement cardiac healthcare to Cardiac Ready Communities in ND.  It will provide blood pressure screening, hypertension prevention and control. This grant is through the ND Department of Health Division of Emergency Medical Systems. Hopefully there will be more specific information available for the June newsletter.

Just a quick house cleaning item. The EMS Rendezvous planning committee would like to apologize for the lack of available seating for the NCCR sessions. We assure you that this issue will be resolved for future Rendezvous conferences.

Until next time enjoy spring, be safe and if you know of someone who is interested in becoming a NDEMSA member, please contact me or one of the Board members.

Dear Association Members,

We want to hear from you! The EMS System of the Future meeting dates have been posted on the NDEMSA website and letters are being sent to squad leaders. Five meeting have been confirmed for later this spring. These sessions are being held to not only address challenges our EMS system is facing, but also hear the comments and concerns from EMS providers, community members, and other stakeholders.  It is also important that at least one person from a funding area attend one of the meetings to be eligible for the 2017-2019 funding area grant cycle.

The EMS Management Conference will be held June 6th and 7th at the Ramada in Bismarck, ND. A variety of local and national speakers with expertise in management and leadership will speak. This is an excellent opportunity for leaders and board members to hear some first-class information and interact with others directors.

Thank you to all that attended the NDEMSA Rendezvous Conference in Bismarck and congratulations to all of the EMS award winners. The NDEMSA staff and conference committee did an excellent job putting together the education and entertainment.

It is my hope to see many of you at one of the regional EMS of the Future meetings and the EMS Management Conference. Check the NDEMSA website for dates, times, and locations. As always, if there are questions, please don't hesitate to contact any of the board members, regional advisors, the NDEMSA office or myself.

Thank you for your continued support of the North Dakota EMS Association.

Jim Restemayer

President, NDEMSA

“Future of EMS in North Dakota” Meeting Dates

THE FUTURE OF THE EMS SYSTEM IN NORTH DAKOTA Updates

What is the purpose of these statewide meetings?

These meetings are being held to share the challenges that our present EMS system is currently facing, and for numerous stakeholders to work together in identifying just how we can move forward and face these unique challenges.  The North Dakota EMS System is not alone, EMS across the country is facing a number of challenges including; the decline in the largest subsidy (volunteer providers), funding, transport reimbursement, pending regulations, training, and the difficulty in transition to EMS integration into the healthcare system.  The meeting has two purposes.  The primary purpose is to gather input from stakeholders and the other purpose is to provide information to the public and other stakeholders on the challenges the EMS system is facing.

These meetings are considered vital to the EMS system in North Dakota. Therefore, attendance by at least 1 person from each funding area is required to be eligible for the 2017-2019 Funding Area Grant cycle. If you are unable to attend the meeting in your area, feel free to attend another meeting within the state. The ambulance service(s) in your area will be affected by the coming changes. Input is vital to the future of EMS in North Dakota.

Who is invited?

EMS Leaders, EMS Providers, Legislators, County and City Officials, Hospital Administrators and Staff Members, City and County Health Districts, Emergency Managers, 911 Coordinators, Dispatch Personnel, the general public and all those who have an interest in building a strong EMS system for North Dakota.
